Aviation Historical Museum

Perth hotels

Built in the heart of one of Perth's finest suburbs, The Royal Australian Air Force Association Aviation Heritage Museum of Western Australia is certainly one of a kind. Recognised both nationally and internationally as being one of the best Aviation museums and being committed to education and the preservation of the history of Western Australian, and more broadly, Australian aviation history.

Conceived, developed and still run by its parent body the RAAF Association (Royal Australian Air Force Association) the museum has roots as far back as 1959 and has a very specific purpose, 'to foster aviation in every possible way and preserve our nation's proud aviation history.'

Tracing its origins back to 1959, the Museum draws its purpose from its parent body, the RAAF Association 'to foster aviation in every possible way to preserve our nation's proud aviation heritage'.

Within the museum grounds there are 30 different aircraft on display. The most incredible of all is the Avro Lancaster, which is one of only 17 remaining internationally. Other amazing aircraft on display include a Spitfire, a replica Bristol Tourer (the first aircraft to fly commercially in Australia) and two amazing Tiger Moths.

On top of the impressive collection of aircraft the Aviation Museum has an incredible selection of photography, documentary and other research all exploring the aviation history of Australia. The staff in the Museum prepare displays and publications specifically for those who are interested in researching aviation history and will be made available by appointment.
