Perth restaurants

Perth hotels

When I think of Perth and eating out, one particular option still makes my mouth water at the mere thought of it - and that's the juiciest fresh west Australian sea food!

Fresh barramundi, tiger prawns and marron (crayfish) are all on offer by the bundle in Perth and they seem particularly tempting when you go to one of the many sea food restaurants on the pretty waterfront at Fremantle.

I would highly recommend Joe's Fish Shack at the Fishing Boat Harbour in "Freo". I ate fresh tiger prawns in a scrumptious garlic sauce and still remember the taste of them to this very day! Friends tell me that Joe's just gets better and better, and the restaurant has also recently won some local restaurant awards because of their great food and great vibe.

If sea food really isn't your thing, then there are plenty of different delicacies to be sampled at various points around the city. If you are after traditional "aussie" food then I wouldn't choose anywhere else other than 44 King Street in the CBD. I found the style to be modern "Australian" in design and décor, and the food was hugely tasty whilst offering an "about average" price for a well known restaurant in the city centre.

I went there for lunch, but they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner as well (which never disappoint I am told) My Mum was certainly not disappointed with their local wines from the Southern grape growing region of Margaret River; I feel maybe this opinion had something to do with the amount of wine tasting she did there!

Other than the restaurants I have already mentioned, I can't sign off without recommending the Blue Duck Café in Cottesloe for Breakfast. "The Duck" as it is known to the locals is set overlooking North Cottesloe beach and does fantastic food all day long. I used to head there for breakfast for a lovely start to the day - eating salmon and scrambled eggs on toast for brekkie is certainly my idea of breakfast heaven! Miss it and miss out.
